Open Role for Mid/Senior Designer
New York City

First, a bit of background and context on Matter Unlimited.

Matter Unlimited is a full service strategic and creative agency that’s solely devoted to social impact and purpose-driven work. We’re currently boutique-sized and a small team, but we’re rapidly growing with offices in NYC and SF. Our clients range from non-profits, NGOs and foundations to for-profit brands and companies that are re-evaluating their role in the world and making meaningful steps toward social change.

Designer Job Description:

A Designer at Matter will get the chance to do extensive campaign work big and small, with logo/branding/identity, interactive and digital, activations and experiential, and even inform the look/feel of films we make.

The specific design role we’re aiming to fill centers on someone who feels a great sense of duty and responsibility, first and foremost, to elevating our visual look+feel and design aesthetic of our agency. Someone that really owns that role. Someone that’s not above designing social media posts and deck comps, but is confident enough to talk clients through his/her design
choices and absolutely crush a logo/identity/branding project. And someone who doesn’t design anything without a strong strategic insight or concept animating it, never churning out design for design sake. And finally someone with other art-related talents, references, skill sets and points of view they bring into the agency from cultivating outside interests.

A designer at Matter will be a big idea thinker and a natural storyteller that leverages innovative design to bring creative ideas to life. We want a designer who can grow in the role, is committed to our purpose-driven mission, ideally comes from a diverse background, and is hungry to show that fresh, unexpected, and progressive design can help brands and foundations elevate their
purpose-driven mission with impactful creative solutions. That, and help set this agency apart as the preeminent purpose-driven agency in the US, if not the world.

Any candidate should have a strong book and experience at some of the premiere design shopsand/or creative agencies in the industry.

Types of design fluency we require:

● Strategically-led, concept-driven design
● Branding/identity/logo
● DTC branding creation a plus
● Digital design in all its forms: Interactive, web, mobile and social media
● Experiential and stunts for branded events
● Deck templates
● Internal agency branding

● Published children’s storybook with original illustrations
● Complete naming, branding and identity from scratch for a global education network
● Parallaxing annual report website
● Printed collateral for industry events feat. Dr. Anita Hill
● Social media campaign and anthem film for Rockefeller Foundation
● Narrative filmmaking and integrated campaigns for Merck for Mothers
● Anthemic brand values campaign launching a pro-immigration tech startup
● Storytelling and consumer-facing launch for Nike’s sustainability platform

Ultimately, we’re looking for a strong mid-level to senior designer that will own the role and look to grow not just the visual  aesthetic at Matter, but also with an eye toward growing into a Design Director in their own career trajectory with us.
